It is owned by two persons; Rahul Bhatia owner of Interglobe Enterprises and a United States based NRI Rakesh Gangwal. If we talk about the shares in this airline, 51.12% shares are owned by Interglobe Enterprises and Caelum Investments, a Virginia based company of Gangwal’s carries 47.88% shares in indigo airlines.

The airline has the largest fleet of latest and semi latest airplanes. It operates more than 1000 flights daily. Indigo airline is the first airline of India which flew 1000 flights per day to more than 49 targets locally and internationally.

Indigo Airlines was operating with a fleet of 262 aircraft as in March-2020. They have also ordered 641 new aircraft before the COVID-19 outbreak. Fleet status is mentioned below
- Aircraft A320-200: Total in-service aircraft are 123 and they have a capacity of carrying 180 passengers each. These are the older air crafts which will be grounded by 2022.
- Airbus A320neo: Total in-service aircraft are 100 and they have ordered 232 more aircraft of the same series. They have the capacity of carrying 180- 186 passengers.
- Airbus A321neo: 14 in service planes and 384 more planes ordered. The passenger-carrying capacity of each aircraft is 222. Furthermore last 284 aircrafts ordered by Indigo Airlines are mixture of A321XLR and A321LR.
- ATR 72-600: Indigo airline has 25 air ATR aircraft and they have ordered 25 more. These airplanes can carry 74 passengers.
5. How They Manage Low Cost
To manage low-cost Indigo airlines didn’t offer any complimentary meal in flight and also no other service available regarding entertainment. They only work on traveling passengers from one place to another. They have a flight onboard meal option from where you can buy your meal as needed.
COVID-19 and Its Effects on Indigo Airline:
During this pandemic condition the whole world is suffering from very bad economic conditions. The same situation prevails in the case of Indigo airlines. Indigo Airlines announced that they will give a full refund to customers who have made a booking between 25th March, 2020 to 14th April, 2020. But you have to apply for a refund to avail of this opportunity.
Indigo airline announced that in this severe economic condition they are going to cut the pay of their senior employees. And it would range in between 5 to 25 percent’s. And furthermore leave without pay policy only for senior employees is also implemented from May to July. In an email the airlines said that cut off in pay is effective from May-2020 and may prevail up to the end of 2020-2021 financial year.
